66. Twitter: Incentivize Interaction

Incentives, incentives, incentives. The one absolutely critical component of any successful social media marketing campaign is incentives. Very few people are going to engage with you for no reason. You have to give them a reason. Not only that but the incentive will make it much easier to calculate the return on investment (ROI) after the campaign is finished. Always offer incentives. They don’t need to be big. They just need to be enough to spur interaction. This chapter reviews a few case histories and offers a variety of tips to incorporate incentives in everything you do. It also discussed the difference between private communication (like phone calls or email) and public communications (like Twitter and Facebook posts) and how you can leverage those differences to build a viral element into your campaigns.
