67. LinkedIn: Precision Email

Communicate with precision! LinkedIn offers such a tremendous opportunity to those who truly take advantage of it. Because LinkedIn functions essentially as an online resume for all its users, you can learn a TON of stuff about the people you want to contact BEFORE you contact them. The problem is that very few people take advantage of that. They just blurt out their message without personalizing it at all. That’s spam! Instead, visit their profile and see what you have in common. Mutual connections and other commonalities should always be incorporated into introductory emails. This chapter discusses this as well as the tricks that allow you to send LinkedIn emails (called “inmail”) to people outside your direct network.
